what suggestions do you have for retaining children or indeed adults in sport?
My top three tips are in priority order
1. create a really good relationship with people as individuals. Get to know them, what motivates them to come to your session ( which then as a coach you should help them achieve), what do they love and hate about your session, who influences and encourages them coming to the session, etc.
2. build confidence, self esteem and self efficacy
3. give them the skills to take part in your session - not just technical and tactical but also some personal and social skills so that they can be part of the group and not fell left out or less able to be involved.
Fun first then they'll enjoy learning and want to come back
Hope you are well
I just remembered Anne Baker did a good blog on this that might be worth checking out: How to keep your participants returning to your coaching sessions .
Hope it helps!
Thanks for this.
